'War Is Over' History behind this track, words by Jonathan Daniel (now manager of Weezer, Green Day, Fall Out Boy). "I Started out in Candy with John Schebert on drums, Gilby Clarke on guitar, Kyle Vincenton on vocals and myself, Jonathan Daniel on bass. We were the lone pop group during the early eighties metal years in L.A. We put out an album on Polygram called "Whatever Happened to Fun..." that's a collector's item these days. We then splintered into a couple of different groups, Gilby started Kill For Thrills, Kyle did a solo record, and John and I formed Electric Angels with a singer name Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper, Slash). We moved to New York City and recorded an album for Atlantic, Gilby joined Gun 'n' Roses. We were doing demos for a second record and that's when "War Is Over" was written. Gilby did a solo album, "Pawnshop Guitars" which John and I played on and at the same, John, Shane, and I formed The Loveless, and recorded "A Taste of Gin & Salvation." We recorded "War Is Over" with both Gilby and Ryan playing guitars for the Loveless album, but it didn't seem to fit on that records. I'm glad it's finally found a home on this CD."

Chris Jordan (M!SS CRAZY) is behind the drum kit and Jeff Lynn is on bass guitar and backup vocals. Jeff Lynn is also featured on lead vocals for the song "Avenue". Drawing from their varied experiences, they have forged a unique blend of audio styles and textures reminiscent of the early days of heavy rock. HERE COMES THE NIGHT - CD $12.99
EX JAGGED EDGE SINGER!
Matti Alfonzetti will be known to many people as the vocalist for Jagged Edge, an excellent 80's rock act which featured Myke Gray and Dicki Flizar, who would go on to form Skin. Alfonzetti had previously been in the Bam Bam Boys, as well as working with Scott Gorham in Western Front prior to Jagged Edge breaking through, and has continued to record under numerous banners since, releasing albums with acts such as Skin Trade, Boxer, Road To Ruin and issuing solo records. He also has been making a name for himself as a songwriter and producer, contributing to albums by bands such as The Poodles.
'Here Comes The Night' is his third solo album, with Matti handling all the lead vocals, playing bass, some guitar and writing all the material on offer. He is joined by Daniel Flores who weighs in with percussion and keyboard duties and the pair of them mixed the album. The material is good old fashioned melodic rock, with Matti's excellent voice front and centre. 'Losing You' opens things up with a driving riff, before it drops down a notch for the verse, before exploding into an uplifting chorus. The title track features an emotive vocal from Alfonzetti, who has improved ten fold from his days in Jagged Edge, now boasting a lot more depth and quality, and it's used to full effect on this compelling tune. My personal favourite is the powerful guitar driven 'I'll Wait For You', with some crunching riff work. The chorus is sublime and has a great singalong part which has a hint of De Leppard about it. 'Heartbreaker' reminds me of the classic Whitesnake tune 'Is This Love' in feel and style, and also worthy of mention if the breakneck pace of 'Rock And Roll Heart', a gloriously clichéd 80's style rocker. And I don't use the word cliché negatively, it's impossible not to enjoy this one! There's also a terrific keyboard driven ballad in the form of 'Set Me Free' which give Matti chance to sing in a deeper, more Coverdale-esque style. This also has a Whitesnake vibe and proves Alfonzetti knows how to structure a solid tune. With some sterling guitar work form guests Marcus Jidell and Emil Fredholm, this is a good, solid melodic rock album with a highly underrated vocalist at the helm. There's plenty on here to like, and fans of Matti would be well advised to check out the feature and review of Red White And Blues in this very issue - a brand new band which sees Matti reunited with Myke Gray.

In The Beginning - CD $14.99
Limited quantity in stock, selling for big money on EBAY. The Former Arista Records recording artists offer a first look into what the industry buzz was all about when legendary music mogul Clive Davis signed them in 1989 to his label. This CD is comprised of the bands 12 song demos that eventually snagged them a record deal. The band went on to record two critically acclaim CDs. And with heavy rotation at radio and MTV, Babylon A.D. became one of Rock fans favorite acts. The CD contains what should have been sure fire hits such as "I’m no Good for You", "She likes to Give It" and "Tears" as well as nine other well done rockers which never saw the light of day until now. This is a must for have for any music collector of hard rock history.
Shake Your Skull - digipak cd $12.99
For fans of Broken Teeth, Wolfchild, AC/DC & ZZ Top style. Chillihounds is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden and have just released their fourth album ´Shake Your Skull´. The name of the album and the obvious skull based album artwork gave me a strong clue that the music was of the death metal variety. I was proved wrong by the end of bar 1 of the first song; this is classic/blues/boogie rock in the style of ZZ Top and a laid back AC/DC. Having changed its record label, the band has in the words of the lead singer/guitarist Gabriel Aadland produced an album which is less boogie and more black blues. I have never heard of this term but it sort of works; their sound on tracks such as ´Evil Mind Blues´ is a sleazy rock boogie with snarling vocals and reverb heavy guitars. This is also a very easy to listen to album with a good mainstream feel courtesy of the band and co-producer Kristian Anttila. The vocals by Aadland, although not strong on range and clarity, are very commercial sounding. The backing vocals by the drummer and band co-founder, Stefan Johansson help add the depth to choruses. And talking of vocals, Aadland´s performance on ´Cain´ is very much in the Mick Jagger envelope.
